The Siemens 10km Run 2009

Last Sunday, I was given a number by a friend to run. It was for the Siemens 10km Run. I thought I would miss that run as I didn't manage to sign up on time.

Few things unexpectedly happened before the run. On Saturday, I went to Melaka for a half day food crawl and a friend's surprise party. I went back home around 1 am and I woke up on 6 am for the run. I was exhausted!

Luckily, we managed to reach on time for the run. The starting route was quite identical to KL City Day Run. I didn't manage to warm up so I started slow and easy. I walked for the first 3-4 km and later on I started to make short sprints. Rachel from beginning was already far ahead of me.

I'm quite used to walking and running alone. Normally, I would pick someone to chase. This time, a young couple. Every time, I ran across them I will slow down to walking pace and they would overtake me.

When reaching the last 3km, they thought I was far behind. They were so wrong, I was trailing them. I overtook them this time and they didn't have a chance to overtook me again.

I promised myself I would improve my time and I did. I did a 1 hour 40 min for 10 km. 2 minutes better than Standard Chartered Run. Rachel did a 1 hour 15 min, a big improvement from the previous run.

I haven't sign up for Adidas King of the Road yet. I'm not sure whether I will be running there as well. Still considering....

Standard Chartered KL Marathon 2009

Its my 4th run of the year. Even though I'm not getting really good timing but I do still enjoy them.

Went there early this time around. Reached there around 6.15 am, got myself a good parking spot. We were basically stretching around and warmed up a bit before the run. Huge crowd for 10km run, thousands! Love big huge crowd turnouts.

Then, we saw Spiderman and took a picture with him.

Reaching finishing line... OMG! Can you see the mom with the baby...

kl5

Finished the race 1h 43 min. My personal best time ever... I could do better next time around!

Rachel did 1hr 20 min, her best time as well...

Bumped to lots of friends in this marathon. Jason of Smashpop.net, Kennysia, Celine, Evo and my high school friends.

I Completed Malakoff 2009 Run In Penang

This is my 3rd run in my life and this year so far.

The first run was in February, the KL City Day Run. It was a 10km run. Read more about it HERE.

The second run was the New Balance 15km Run last month. Heck it was damn hard. Read more about it HERE.

Well, I was running 6km for Malakoff 2009. I thought it was easy. Damn I was so wrong!

My run started at 6.30 am. The first few km was easy, later on I realized I was gasping for air. As we were running near the sea, the air contains salt and the air was drier. The result was lesser oxygen and hotter. I practically gave up on 3km and started to walk back. I almost finished last this time around. The other reason was fatique. On Saturday I drove around 4-5 hours from KL to Penang and that excludes the whole day trip we had in Penang. Anyways I finished the run lamely in 58 minutes. Damn paiseh.

malakoff

So then, I waited there for Rachel as she participated the 26km run. She started at 5.30 am. I sat at the finishing area from 7.30 am to 9.00 am. I saw quite a number of people finishing the 26km run. In fact, there were a few people finished the 26km run before I did. Damn shy. Around 9.00 am, I saw an ambulance came in and I saw Rachel got out from the ambulance. I was worried, I ran over to the first aid area. Rachel was very pissed. She told me the run was more than 26km and she was totally exhausted. Rachel ran 23km. I'm proud of her as she can easily participate 1/2 marathon by now while I'm still struggling for 6km.

No matter how, it was a good run. I'm in need of time to practice for end month's Standard Chartered Run. Time's running out!

The New Balance 15km Marathon

Last Sunday, I went for the Pacesetters New Balance 15km run at Lake Garden. My second marathon in this year and it was my first 15km run in whole 31 years old life.

I tagged along Tony for this run. Together 3 of us reached Lake Garden around 6.30 am. After finding a parking spot, I realized something is wrong. They got me 2 sizes smaller T-shirt. I got a M size shirt. After putting on the shirt, I look like a fat dude on a tight shirt with belly popping out. Well, I don't care anyways.

At the moment we reached the starting point, we heard the race horn. Me and Tony rushed to the pack and started running. The ladies who will be starting 15 min later, started to cheer for the men. Everyone was so excited.

run1

There were lots of people who joined this race. The first few km was tough. It was uphill all the way. From there, I started to drop to the back of the pack. This was tougher than the KL City day run. For some stupid reasons again, I didn't train for this run.

run2

By the moment we left Lake Garden area,I spotted quite a number of ladies runners. Even though they started 15 min later, some of them starting to run past me. Trust me, this time around there were lots of hot chicks. Yet, I couldn't catch up with them. In my heart, I would only say... "wait for me....."

So the theory about fat men running for hot chick is just a myth. BUSTED.

I started to walk and sprint again. I kept pushing myself. It wasn't easy. It was a mental battle. Rachel also caught up with me. She tried to push me to run but I left not much energy in me. I couldn't keep up with her. My foot felt like breaking apart. Even though with the new NIKE running shoe, the pain started to be unbearable. I could felt my muscles aching on the calf and the thigh area. My shirt was soaked with my sweat but thank god no tears.

I told myself I must complete this race. I kept on going.

My time actually improved. I ran around 1hr 48 min for 10 km. Big improvement than the 2 hr plus I did at KL City Day Run.

After passing the 2nd water station, I was determined to finish the race. By the moment I saw the Lake Garden entrance, I paced myself up. I thought the finishing was near. Strangers cheering for me. "You can do it, its just a bit more"....

Then, I heard "Fei Chai (Fatty), run run!!" It turned out to be that idiot was a long lost friend of mine. That was encouraging, huh.

The closing line was never been near. There was like another 2km before the finishing. I slowed down a bit, started to walk again. By the last 100m, I sprinted to the finishing line.

By 2 hour 45 min, I finally finished the race. It was much tougher than I expected. I was sitting, panting for another 30 min. Tony and Rachel were there. They helped me getting my drinks.

run3

I enjoyed the race. Even though as tough as it is. It was fun. We went straight for 1hr foot massage after that.

I'm happy that I'm able to complete the 15 km marathon. I would be joining the Standard Chartered Marathon next month. See you guys there.

Standard Chartered Marathon Run : I'll Be There!

After my first attempt for 10km run was successful few months ago, I am no longer in shape (even though I never did in shape) to go for another one.

Many might not believe at first but when I completed the race, only then my friends knew that I'm serious about it. Even though it was 2 hours plus, but I'm proud of it.

Running never been my cup of tea. However, the satisfaction and joy after the run was somehow amazing. I had a huge body ache for 3 consecutive days. It was like the best gym workout ever.

The best part was, we never trained for the 10km run. We just went there and run!

I will be joining Standard Chartered Marathon Run but not for the 42km or the 21km. I'll running for 10km again. Before that I might join other marathons for fun. There's Malakoff and New Balance run before then.

Here's the thing...

If a fat guy like me can complete the race, why can't you?

I Finished 10km KL City Day Run

I woke up at 6 am today. Getting ready for my first 10km marathon. Once I was at my parents home picking up the rest (2 cousins, sis and sis fiance), we found out that we were late.
We did a few wrong things; wrongly registered Rachel and Adeline as male contestants, got the time all wrong and we were almost too late.

At the brisk of 7.30 am, everyone has already started warming up for the race. By 7.30 am, the race started. I jogged with the rest towards Bkt Tunku. After a 10-15 min jog, I started to slow down to walk. I did short sprints to try to follow the crowd but I wasn't that worry at all. There were quite a few behind me.

The shit thing about marathon was there was no toilet. So it took me a while to get off a few ladies group for me to do it behind some bush. After some short sprints out of Bkt Tunku, running at the highway was tough. Imagine the smoke and the carbon monoxide from the cars, trucks and lorry, running under such circumstances was not easy. I caught up with Rachel earlier on and she sprinted away once she saw me... wtf..

So I took my time and camwhore as well... There was quite a few people behind me.

While reaching Padang Merbok, I saw a couple running with their hands together.... how romantic...

I smartly ran to the wrong side at the finishing and clocked somewhere around 2 hrs. Not bad for first timers like me huh? Once at the finishing, my cousins and my sis and her fiance were there cheering. My cousins were 30 min earlier than me. Well, my sis and her fiance took a cab half way (wtf). Rachel got the wrong socks and her skin of her ankle was torn and bleeding. She went to the St. John's tent to get some treatment.

It's a first time for everything. I hope my tummy will get smaller after this attempt. Next run hopefully will be KL Tower Climb next week. We'll have a few more days to decide still. For the run today, there were lots of small kids running for 3km and other citizens running for 5 km as well. It's a very healthy event and I should say its a shame after so long only we enrolled for this. I might run again next year. For now, I shall go to the nearest spa for my foot massage. :P

Going to KL City Day Run!

Date: Sunday, 22nd February 2009
Time: 7.30am
Venue: Dataran Merdeka, Kuala Lumpur
Distance: 10km, 7km, 5km & 3km
Registration: 2nd Floor, OCM Building (opposite Stadium Negara)
Tel: 03-27152843

I promised to go to marathon, didn't I?

The first one will be KL City Day run this Sunday at Dataran Merdeka. Got myself signed up at the OCM few days ago. Registration is only RM 5 without T-Shirt. They said "economy is bad, no sponsor".

The issue is can I finish in 1 hr 20 min? or finish at all? I will try to push for 1h 20 min.. er hem.. try lar... Certificate will be given for my category, if complete within 1 hour 20 min.

After this weekend, maybe will try for KL Tower Run next weekend. However, will see how it goes first. If really can cope, I don't mind trying for the KL Tower Run.

There will be always a first time.
